Crucial Conversations

Crucial Conversations

Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue® is an engaging 2 day in-person course rich with group discussion, real-time practice, and group support and coaching.

The two-day workshop involves lessons in mastering crucial conversation skills, including:

  • Spotting the conversations that are keeping you from what you want
  • Identifying your own ‘Style Under Stress’ and managing it
  • Staying in dialogue when you’re angry, scared or hurt
  • Stepping out of a conversation to notice how to make it work
  • Taking steps to rebuild safety and returning to dialogue

Whenever you’re not getting the results you want, it’s likely an important conversation either hasn’t happened or hasn’t been handled well. In fact, both individual and organisational success are largely determined by how quickly, directly, and effectively we speak up when it matters most. When conversations turn crucial, people tend to follow one of two ineffective paths: they either speak directly and abrasively to get the results they want but harm relationships, or they remain silent with the hope of preserving relationships, only to sacrifice results.

At the heart of healthy and high-performance organisations are people willing and able to hold Crucial Conversations®.

A Crucial Conversation® is a discussion between two or more people where the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions run strong.

Comprised of 10 modules, the Crucial Conversations® program will explore how to:

  • Identify problems contributing to poor results and broken relationships
  • Keep composure when feeling angry, defensive, or intimidated.
  • Consider others’ perspectives + speak honestly and respectfully
  • Rebuild safety and find and cultivate mutual purpose
  • Spot warning signs that indicate dialogue and safety are at risk.
  • Find common ground
  • Defuse and address when people clam up or blow up
  • Turn Crucial Conversations into plans of action that lead to results
